Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Nature Lenz ("we", "our", "the app") handles your information when you use our iOS application. We've kept this short and plain — no legalese tricks.

1. What we collect

When you identify a plant, Nature Lenz sends only the photo you choose to our backend service. We do not collect or store:

Your name, email, or any identifying account info (the app has no accounts).
Your contacts, location, browsing history, or other apps you use.
Any data about who you are — your photos are processed anonymously.

2. How your photo is used

Each photo you submit follows this path:

Sent over HTTPS to our Cloudflare Worker endpoint (api.naturelenz.app).
The Worker forwards the image to our third-party plant identification provider, Plant.id by Kindwise, which returns species candidates.
The plant name (not the photo) is then sent to our care-tips generator (a large language model API) to produce care advice in English.
The result is returned to your phone.

We do not store the photo on our servers after the identification completes. The photo is not used to train any model. The photo is not associated with any user identifier.

3. What stays on your device

Nature Lenz stores the following information locally on your iPhone:

Whether you have completed the onboarding screen.

That's it for v0.1. As we add features like a plant journal, additional local data may be stored on-device. This policy will be updated accordingly. Uninstalling Nature Lenz removes all local data.

4. Third-party services

The following third-party services may process your photo or related data:

Cloudflare (USA) — hosts our API proxy. Cloudflare may log IP addresses and request metadata for abuse-prevention purposes, retained according to their Privacy Policy.
Plant.id by Kindwise (Czech Republic) — performs plant identification. See their Privacy Policy.
DeepSeek (Singapore/PRC) — generates English-language care advice from the identified plant name. The photo itself is NOT shared with this provider. See their Privacy Policy.

5. Analytics & tracking

Nature Lenz currently has no third-party analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, and no advertising integration. We do not track you across apps or websites. We do not sell any data.

6. Children's privacy

Nature Lenz is rated 4+. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (in the US) or under 16 (in the EU). If you believe a child has used the app in a way that compromised their privacy, please email us and we will respond promptly.

7. Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Because Nature Lenz does not maintain any user account or persistent identifier, we have nothing personally identifying to delete or export upon request. However, if you have submitted photos and want to confirm none are retained, you may email hello@naturelenz.app and we will respond within 30 days.

Under GDPR, our legal basis for processing your photo is your consent at the moment you tap "Identify". Under CCPA, we do not "sell" personal information as defined by California law.

8. Data retention

Photos: discarded immediately after identification completes. Aggregate metrics (count of identifications per day for service health) may be retained for up to 90 days. IP addresses observed by Cloudflare follow Cloudflare's own retention windows.

9. Changes to this policy

If we materially change how the app handles data — for example, when we add a plant journal that stores your photos on-device, or an account system — we will update this policy and bump the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the app after the change indicates acceptance.
